Emerald Hills Environmental is an engineering firm built from the ground up to create simple paths to compliance and licensing. We work hand-in-hand with our clients to reach their goals through our unique understanding of the compliance process — an understanding that comes from our years of experience as regulating engineers, environmental consultants, and direct participants in the cannabis industry. Working with us, you can focus on propagation while we focus on legalization.

We're here to help you grow.

Emerald Hills was co-founded by Peggy Olofson and Trillian Schroeder. Peggy is a former Water Board regulator who has run her own environmental consultancy for the past 15 years. Trillian has 10+ years experience working in all parts of the cannabis industry and knows what it takes to build a business within it. Together we bring transparency to the permitting process and provide clear direction to bring your grow into compliance. We understand the risks facing this evolving economy and we’re dedicated to helping the farmers who built it thrive. Legalization has arrived. Emerald Hills is here to help.

We are compliance made simple.

Peggy Olofson
Peggy Olofson, P.E.

Senior Engineer

Peggy has been honing her skills as an environmental engineer for the past 25 years. With 10 years experience as a State Water Board Regulator and 15 years experience running her own multidisciplinary environmental consulting firm, she is excited to be using her expertise in guiding the region's cannabis cultivators into compliance with the many layers of regulation they face.

Raised in Garberville, Peggy enjoyed exploring the King Range Wilderness by horseback, raising livestock, and maintaining her family's homestead. She later settled in Arcata, enrolled in Humboldt State’s Environmental Resources Engineering program, and began a family of her own. In 1992, she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was selected as Humboldt State Engineer of the Year.

After graduation, Peggy felt called to help the Bay Area resolve many of the environmental problems it faced, so she took a position at the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board.

While at the Regional Water Quality Control Board she worked as a Regulatory Engineer and managed the Baylands Ecosystem Habitat Goals project, which serves as the vision for preserving and restoring tidal wetlands of the San Francisco Estuary. After finishing the Goals project, Peggy moved on to form her consulting firm, Olofson Environmental. For the past 15 years she's worked hand-in-hand with the State and Regional Water Board, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and many of Northern California’s county regulators, becoming an expert at bringing projects into compliance with the many requirements each of these groups demands.

After 25 years of service in the Bay Area, Peggy is thrilled to be returning home to the North Coast and applying her experience to help the region's communities take their next steps into legalization.

Trillian Schroeder

Senior Project Manager

Trillian was inspired to form Emerald Hills Environmental after watching many of his friends and family farmers pour their resources into becoming legal cultivators, only to get bogged down in layers of regulation. With 10+ years of working in and around Northern California’s cannabis economy, he is very much looking forward to helping this industry take its next steps into legality, and is dedicated to making sure there is room at the table for the many small farmers who have brought this industry so far.

Trillian spent his early years in Arcata — building forts in redwoods, swimming in the six rivers, and running down the beaches of the North Coast. His strong connection to the region has lasted throughout his life. Transplanted to the Bay Area at the age of 8, Trillian would not live on the North Coast again until medicinal cannabis and the chance to continue his education at Humboldt State brought him back.

Seeing an opportunity to bring Humboldt and Mendocino’s medicine to the Bay Area, Trillian began vending to dispensaries in Oakland and San Francisco when he was 20. It was then he began to understand regulatory nuances associated with the industry. In 2008 he enrolled in Humboldt State’s Business Administration program and began work in the hills, where he refined his abilities as a cultivator.

Trillian later finished his degree at San Francisco State and started working as an Agriculture and Energy Commodities Analyst in San Francisco. There he collaborated directly with corporate executive teams, investor relations officers, and treasuries to strategize solutions to their most complex financial questions. He finished his tenure in finance by focusing on the energy economy; specifically the impact that renewables, batteries, off-grid technologies, and electric vehicles are having on the energy industry.

Trillian envisions his family’s future in Humboldt county and is thrilled to be starting Emerald Hills Environmental in partnership with Peggy. He sees Emerald Hills as a crucial partner for farms taking their next steps, and he is passionate about making sure the region’s economy sustains itself as it moves into the future.
